All VIP syllabi list the following learning outcomes that are universal to the VIP courses:
- Document your progress in a way that is appropriate for someone to continue your work
- Contribute to a research or inquiry project and/or advance your skills; reflect on your progress in skill development and potential for leadership
- Communicate your outcomes or progress in a written document, poster, presentation, or other display.
VIP courses likely also have additional learning objectives suited to the discipline of the team.
To support incorporation of these learning outcomes, OURI maintains materials to build course syllabi and an assignment library that connects VIP team activities to these goals.
Many faculty arrange independent study or research courses within their own departments that align with the VIP structure. Beginning Spring 2025, OURI plans to host faculty-led courses specific to VIP teams where existing departmental courses are not aligned with VIP.
