Fall Discovery Day and the Discover Research Fair
At the annual Discovery Day, OURI hosts research a Research Lightning Talk Lunch and the Discover Research Fair. During the lightning talks, undergraduates from each school share research experience and answer questions about getting started. At the Discover Research Fair faculty from various departments and centers advise students on how to prepare for and get involved in research and design, as well as, advertise current opportunities.
Spring Inquiry Week and the Summer Opportunities Fair
At the start of the spring semester, OURI hosts the Summer Opportunities Fair where departments and campus partners advertise upcoming summer openings. Later in the semester, OURI hosts Inquiry Weeks, designed to help students advance their research and presentation skills.
Shapiro Showcase
The Shapiro Showcase is an undergraduate Research competition featuring 16 students across the disciplines who have been nominated and selected by faculty in their respective schools. Shapiro presenters represent the top undergraduate researchers at Rice. Presenters will deliver 10-minute talks on their intermediate to advanced research in two concurrent sessions. One winner will be selected through judge evaluations and awarded a cash prize.
Summer Research Symposium
Held every August, the OURI Summer Research Symposium showcases the work of SURF students as well as other Rice and non-Rice students who conduct research over the summer.
