Research 101
Ever wonder what research looks like in your field? Curious about the type of work undergraduate researchers do? Want to learn more about how to get involved in research while at Rice? This workshop covers all of these and more to help you get started in your own research path. OURI staff and Peer Research Ambassadors will discuss different research program structures and advice for finding a good "fit" for you, how to find out about research for course credit options, and exploring on- and off-campus opportunities. Research 101 is a great place to start seeing yourself in research.
Research 201
Involved in research already and wondering how to tailor your research experience to meet your personal and professional goals? This generative workshop will cover topics on managing effective research mentorships, advancing your knowledge and skills, and reflecting on the right next step for you on the research pathway.
Contacting Faculty about Research Opportunities
Whether you are responding to a posted position or contacting faculty about potential opportunities, the initial email can make the right first impression. Join us for a workshop-style session on contacting faculty to serve as mentors for research and creative projects.
Finding Opportunities (Summer Research Edition)
With a focus on finding summer opportunities, this workshop-style session will help you plan for your summer and beyond. We will provide an overview of resources for searching for opportunities, strengthening your application, and integrating your experience into your personal and professional goals. While summer may be six months away, don't let application deadlines for summer programs and opportunities sneak up on you.
Graduate School 101
Interested in going to graduate school? There are many different programs and options ranging from PhDs to JDs or MAs or MBAs! This workshop will cover the basics of graduate school, how different programs are structured, ways to know if a program right for you, and how to start your application process. Please note this workshop will not cover Medical School programs.
Grad School 101 is an introduction to graduate and professional education. Specifically designed for first- and second-year students, Grad School 101 outlines the institutional landscapes of and paths to post-undergraduate schooling.
Research Ethics
Ethics governs the responsible conduct of research. Not only does this protect rights and welfare of research subjects, but it also contributes to integrity and validity of research outcomes. This workshop addresses procedures and policies for ethical research conduct.
