Space is limited! We aim for all students to be able to present their summer research. If your students will present their research to an audience at a departmental or program-hosted poster session or research seminar, we ask that they do not also register for the OURI symposium.

All presenters must be available for the duration of their assigned time slot (Morning or Main). Presenters will be assigned to present during a one-hour session and will be assigned as a peer judge during the other session. Presenters must register to present a poster by submitting an abstract. Students will received their assigned time slot the week of the symposium.

Register and submit your abstract here. The registration link will open Wednesday, July 1st and close Friday, July 24th.

Registration and abstract guidelines: registration will include submission of title, abstract (max of 1200 characters), presenter information, and mentor information. Title and abstract must be reviewed and approved by the research mentor prior to submission. Poster presentations are a form of publication; content should be reviewed so that unpublished results are not disseminated prematurely. Abstracts should not contain any special characters or formatting - any typesetting will be stripped by the submission portal.

Poster guidelines: The poster should be a maximum of 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. The Rice Digital Media Center hosts in-person and recorded workshops on using PowerPoint to create an academic poster. During the symposium, posters may be displayed using push pins or tape.

Poster printing: There are several printing options on campus. The main location for poster printing is the Mudd Lab. Please ask your respective programs/research mentors for more information on how to print your poster. Students are responsible for bringing their poster to the event.

Presenter attire: Business casual attire is recommended. The goal is to appear professional, confident, and comfortable. Please keep in mind that presenters will be standing for an extended period of time.

Invite your research team! We welcome faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to attend and to serve as judges for the symposium. No registration is required to attend or judge.

Drinks and light snacks will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you at the symposium!
