Kelsey Sanders & Vegetarian Wok
Kelsey Sanders is a senior at McMurtry College studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She has a particular interest in coral reefs and the complex microbial communities these ecosystems host. For her thesis project, she is assessing how low salinity stress impacts multiple aspects of the coral holobiont (the coral animal and its associated microbes) and ultimately coral health. With her mentor, she developed a tank-based experiment to artificially expose coral fragments to low salinity conditions and is using culture-dependent and culture-independent methods to examine microbial community structure over the course of stress. Outside of class, Kelsey plays on McMurtry’s powderpuff football team and enjoys writing and costuming with on-campus theatre groups.
