SURF Mentoring

Potential projects/topics: Our research group focuses on the multiscale integration of nanomaterials with physical phenomena in the 3D printing process, enabling the creation of functional nanocomposite and bioelectronics. Students will participate in interdisciplinary research projects that leverage AI-driven 3D printing processes to create functional bioelectronics (e.g., biosensors) and robotic systems (e.g., ingestible electronics) that can address unmet needs. Please visit our website (kong.rice.edu) for more information. :)

Potential skills gained: 3D printing, biomedical devices, electronics fabrication

Required qualifications or skills: highly motivated and curious, independent, comfortable working in a lab setting, team player.

Direct mentor: Faculty/P.I., Post-doctorate, Graduate Student

Research Areas

Prof. Yong Lin Kong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2016 and was a postdoctoral associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before joining Rice University, he joined the University of Utah in 2018 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2024. Yong Lin’s research focuses on the additive manufacturing of nanomaterial-based functional devices and biomedical devices.
