Research Areas

Hossam Elsherbiny earned his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Ain Shams in Egypt. Prior to joining Rice, Dr. Elsherbiny taught Arabic language, Translation Studies, and Discourse Analysis at the University of Ain Shams and the University of Minnesota. Dr. Elsherbiny’s research and teaching portfolio spans a wide variety of topics, including Critical Discourse Analysis, Sociolinguistics, Media Arabic, and Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Articles by Dr. Elsherbiny have been published in various journals, such as Recall (Cambridge University Press) and The Journal of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL).
