SURF Mentoring
Potential projects/topics: Space weather and exoplanet magnetosphere modeling
Potential skills gained: Basic knowledge of space plasma physics
Required qualifications: Some basic programming experience would be helpful
Direct mentor: Faculty/P.I.
Research Areas
The primary research area of the Rice Space Plasma Simulation Group is the understanding the Large Scale structure of magnetospheres, specifically focussing on the Earth’s inner magnetosphere and the ring current.
Current projects:
Development of the next generation coupled magnetosphere model MAGE as part of the Center for Geospace Storms,
Physics of buoyancy waves in the magnetosphere,
Physics of bursty bulk flows and interchange using the Rice Convection Model – Inertial (RCM-I),
Star-Exoplanet modeling
