Caroline Quenemoen is Associate Dean of Undergraduates and Director of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry at Rice University. Through her present supervision of Rice’s Center for Civic Leadership (CCL) and Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (OURI) and her former roles as Director of Fellowships and Undergraduate Research and Assistant Professor of Art History, she has amassed nearly twenty years of experience in the design and implementation of high-impact practices and faculty development initiatives that advance equity on campus and in Rice’s engagement with external communities.

Dr. Quenemoen has launched and supervised at Rice a number of highly consequential programs aimed especially at students from FGLI and URM backgrounds and restructured campus policies and practices to address systemic barriers to full participation. She serves as co-coordinator of Rice’s Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program and as a member of the Gulf Scholars Program@Rice Advisory Board. Her recent leadership of the university’s Quality Enhancement Plan resulted in twenty departments expanding access to undergraduate research by scaffolding inquiry in the curriculum.

Dr. Quenemoen currently serves as Principal Investigator on a NSF IUSE grant focused on understanding the impact of labor conditions on contingent faculty professional identity and STEM learning at Rice and leads a team of Rice faculty on the Council on Undergraduate Research Transformations Project, also funded by the NSF. She is co-editor with Roger Ulrich of The Blackwell Companion to Roman Architecture. She earned a Ph.D in Classical Archaeology from Yale University and a B.A. in Classical Archaeology from Dartmouth College.
