He is a recipient of the International Dylan Thomas Prize, a Lambda Literary Award, a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 recipient, a recipient of the New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Prize, a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham award, and the winner of an O. Henry Award.
