SURF Mentoring

Potential projects/topics: The student will assist with introducing the HyLight glycolysis sensor into endothelial cells using lentiviral delivery and will quantify basic sensor performance in standard 2D culture conditions. This includes confirming stable expression, optimizing imaging settings, and measuring baseline glycolytic activity under simple perturbations such as glucose withdrawal or metabolic inhibition. This will be used to help understand the basic science of angiogenic metabolism.

Potential skills gained: ImageJ, Cell culture, Microscopy, Molecular Biology

Keefer is a 1st year bioengineering student in Dr. Cynthia Reinhart-King's Lab. Keefer is excited to serve as a Recruitment Chair to help make Rice home for recruits who are not only driven to excel but also value balance and happiness. In his free time, Keefer enjoys cooking, fermenting, soccer, live music, and college football.
